Jerome Marshall Jenkins died Saturday April 30, 2016 at Concordia at Sumner.
Jerry was born in Bronxville, N.Y. in 1925 to parents Rouget deLisle Jenkins and Patricia Abernethy Jenkins. He graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1943. After one term at Cornell University, he enlisted in the Army, was admitted to OCS and served two years in the Pacific. He was discharged as a lieutenant and returned to finish his Chemical and Metallurgical engineering degree at Cornell and became a member of Phi Delta Theta. Shortly after graduation Jerry joined National-Standard Company in Niles, Michigan and ended his 38-year career as a marketing representative in Akron, Ohio. Jerry married Helen King Osborne in Ithaca in 1950.
Jerry and Helen enjoyed golf at Portage Country Club. As a member of Sharon Golf Club, Jerry and friend David Wiedie won the 1992 Member Member Championship. In 2000 Jerry trained hard to become the eighth man on the 1943 Culver men's crew to enter into the Veterans' race at the Henley regatta on the River Thames. Jerry attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church, served one term on the Vestry and was a dedicated member of the Usher Guild. Jerry and Helen were among the founders of the new Sumner on Ridgewood and Jerry was elected the first president of the Resident's Association.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Susan Blair (Tobey Levine), Deborah (Edward Alyanak), Elizabeth (Guy Hasegawa) and Peter Jenkins; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren; brother, John Marshall Jenkins (Mary Mecklin) of Hanover, N.H.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 14th at 10 a.m., in the Chapel of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, with Rev. Mark Pruitt officiating. Visitation one hour after the service. A reception will be held at Concordia at Sumner. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1361 W.
