Karen J Raccuia

Karen Jean Raccuia, beloved wife and mother, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014.

She was an involved Dominican Associate who found joy in studying spirituality, and had a deep connection with the community at Our Lady of the Elms. Karen was a loving mother and aunt, considerate friend, talented gardener, skilled letter-writer, tireless volunteer and dedicated reading tutor. Her smile, wit, intelligence, generosity and spirit will be remembered by all.

Karen was a lifelong Akron resident. In her early career, she worked as a regional salesperson for major cosmetic companies such as Christian Dior and Shiseido. She truly enjoyed nature and loved all animals, especially cats and wild birds. Karen was her husband Michael's best friend, and he said that she taught him more about life than any person.

Karen is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ann Smith and nephew, Jeff Smith. She is survived by her husband, Michael Raccuia; daughter, Lorraina (Bennett) Raccuia-Morrison; and her four brothers, Gary (Mary) Smith, David (Susan) Smith, Robert (Karen) Smith, and Patrick Smith. Karen is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Tricia (Scott) Wheeler, Diana Smith, Beth (Michael) Grasso, and Christopher (Amanda) Smith, Michael Smith, and Brian Smith; as well as her beloved great-nieces, Amelia Smith and Kensington Wheeler.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. FRIDAY at Our Lady of the Elms Convent Chapel, 1230 W. Market St., Akron 44313. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., THURSDAY from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Dominican Sisters of Peace at the address above.
