Mary (Horvath) Rockwood Balk, age 95 passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2015.
Born August 24, 1919 in Akron, she was the daughter of Stephen and Veronica (Gyenei) Horvath.
Survivors include her children: Bill (Mary Ann) Rockwood, Suzanna (Gary) Geul, Paul (Jeanne) Rockwood, Mark (Mary Lynn) Rockwood, and John (Joanne) Rockwood, step-daughters: Janene Pierce and Deanna Balk; grandchildren: Jim (Andrea) Rockwood, Jane (Hubert) Tougouma, Jeff (Beth) Rockwood, Amanda (Damien) Tassler, Amber Fritz, Bethany (Josh) Van Meter, Kevin Rockwood, Luke Rockwood, Mark (Jennifer) Rockwood, Meredith (Fiancée Jim Jenkins) Rockwood, Mitchell Rockwood, Joshua Rockwood, Jennifer Rockwood, Jack Rockwood, Christine (Kurt Liston) Pierce, Martin (Amy) Geul, Tina (Scott) Flinn, and Matthew Geul; great grandchildren: Kristen and Abigal Rockwood, Audrey, Kayla, and Lucien Tassler, Joselyn and Lillian Fritz, Sebastian Ignace and Simon William Tougouma, Leland Joshua Van Meter, Baby Rockwood (J&B), Soren Liston, Jake Dolen, Nicole and Joseph Flinn, Westley and Parker Geul; great great grandchildren Elleanna Winning and Gracie Flinn; and sister Elizabeth Franke.
Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Monferd Rockwood and William Balk, as well as 8 siblings.
She was an active member of the St. Luke's Lutheran Church, she was a member of the Akron Rose Society; she was the class president of Chippewa School # 10. Mary was a fantastic baker and enjoyed making wedding cakes, she also baked hundreds of dozens of cookies for the Soldiers and Sailors Orphanage in Xenia, Ohio for many years.
Friends will be received at the Billow FALLS Chapel, 1907 23rd St., Cuyahoga Falls, on Sunday from 3-5PM. Services will be held on Monday at 1:00PM at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 2121 6th St., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44221 where friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the St. Luke's Mercy Fund.
