Roland Charles "Ching" Redmond, 88, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on February 18, 2017 in Hudson, OH.
He attended Buchtel High School and graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Engineering. After moving back to Akron, he spent over 50 years as a sales engineer with 30 of those years representing the Buffalo Forge Co. Ching was an avid golfer playing many of America's greatest courses. He experienced many highlights and unusual thrills including three hole-in-ones, 2 at his favorite #5 at Congress Lake Country Club where he was a member for 40 years. Ching loved doing projects for others. There wasn't anything he couldn't "science" out to fix. His smile will be remembered by all he knew.
Preceded in death by parents, Roland and Josephine Redmond; wife, Marilyn Williams Redmond; sister, Joy Kendall; son, Jonathan Smithers; and brother-in-law, Ted Williams. Ching is survived by his wife of 41 years, Betsy; children, Jim (Marianne), Kelly (David), Agatha (Bill), Sarah and daughter-in-law, Linda Smithers; grandchildren, Kyle, John, Michael, Kelly (Sean), Ethan, Jackson and Owen; sister, Dori (Rol Reiter); sister-in-law, Mary Ann Williams; nieces and nephews.
A heartfelt thank you to all his aides and nurses at Laurel Lake in Hudson and Crossroads Hospice.
A memorial service will be held 12 noon Saturday, March 4th in the Community Room at Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Dr., Hudson, OH 44236 followed by a reception. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Akron Community Foundation, c/o "The Redmond Family" fund, 345 W. Cedar St., Akron, OH 44307, in memory of Ching Redmond.
