Sondra Jean Guthrie

Sondra Jean Guthrie (Smith) of Portage Lakes, Ohio passed after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease on Monday, August 22, 2016.

She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Arbogast, and son-in-law, Rob Arbogast of North Canton; grandchildren, Sarah Arbogast of Greeneville, South Carolina, Robert Arbogast of San Jose, California, and brother, Charles Smith of Fairlawn. She will be missed by family, friends and the many people she touched throughout her life.
Sondra was born on January 20, 1940 in Mansfield, Ohio to Charles and Thelma Smith. Growing up in Akron, Sondra graduated from East High School. She married her best friend William "Bill" Guthrie. Bill passed to leukemia in 1989. Together they loved to play cards with friends, family vacations and hunting for special antiques and collectables.
Sondra, or Gma as the grandkids called her, loved to support and watch her family grow and develop. She received great joy in watching them play sports, participate in school activities, college and become wonderful adults. Of course there was nothing better than the family going to a movie.
Sondra spent her career in retail work. She was head cashier and auditor at Clarkins department store and retired from JCPenney. She we very proud of her career progression at JC Penney and was able to obtain the role of Training Specialist where she helped many people be successful. Sondra's infectious spirit, kindness and love were reflected in the care of her family and constant concern for family, friends and others. She was loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her as a mother, sister, grandmother, friend and neighbor. We love you Punkie... ..
Services will be held 11:30 a.m. FRIDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Rev. Sarah Taylor-Peck officiating. Private interment at Lakewood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the service begins.
