Suzanne McCormick Rickards

Suzanne McCormick Rickards, 83, passed away on July 2, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Akron, OH to Alberta Waltz McCormick and E.C. McCormick, Jr., Sue grew up in Silver Lake. She graduated from Old Trail School, attended Stephens College and graduated from Florida State University. She returned to Akron where she spent her life. Sue was Owner and President of Herman Machine, Inc.

She dedicated her time, energy and experience to many organizations including the Women's Board of Children's Hospital of Akron, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens- Emeritus and the Akron Garden Club wherein she was the longest surviving President and recipient of the GCA Medal of Merit, AGC Ann Falor Award and Edna R. Sewell Bowl. Sue was also an active member of the Junior League of Akron, served on the Board of the Summit Education Initiative, a past Women's Chairman of the American Golf Classic, Past Chairman of The World Series of Golf and Old Trail School- Trustee Emeritus. Sue was a long-standing member and served on the Council at Faith Lutheran Church.

She was married to and preceded in death by Sylvester (Rick) Rickards. Sue is survived by children, Tara Earley, Renee Kulman, Teal Rickards; grand-children, McKenna, Kayne and Judson Kulman, Mariah, Joshua and Evan Rickards; and special friend, Stuver Parry and his family.

Sue set an example of living life to the fullest and giving thanks to God daily for being blessed by many who loved her and whose lives she touched with her compassion, love and thoughtfulness.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on FRIDAY July 29th at 1:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church, 2726 W. Market St., Akron, OH, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sue's honor may be made to: Children's Hospital of Akron, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens or Faith Lutheran Church. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
