Shirley Jean Backos Minich

Shirley Jean Backos Minich, 76, of Wadsworth passed away on November 16, 2022 due to complications from M.S. 

“My chains are gone, I’ve been set free, my God, my Savior has ransomed me, and like a flood His mercy reigns, unending love, amazing grace.”

Shirley hopes to be remembered for her strength, faith, and love for her family and friends.
Born November 19, 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Charles and Evelyn Backos. Shirley grew up in Cleveland Heights where she graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in January 1964.
Shirley attended Cleveland State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1969. She and her husband Doyle moved to Akron in 1969 where she taught in the Akron Public School system until the birth of her children. She was a homemaker, a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother, and a good friend. She was an active member of Woodland Methodist Church for 15 years, and an active member of Montrose Zion Methodist Church for 17 years. The last few years Shirley and Doyle attended The Chapel, Green Campus.
Survivors include her loving husband of 54 years, Doyle; children David (Maggie) Minich, Brian (Cambria) Minich, and Carrie (Allan) Reyes; grandchildren Ellie, Ben, and Drew Minich, Bria Minich, and Adrian, Levi, and Evelyn Reyes; and sister, Colleen Laycock.

Per her wishes cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life will be held 4:00 p.m. SATURDAY, November 19, 2022 at Montrose Zion United Methodist Church, 565 N. Cleveland Massillon Rd. Akron, Ohio 44333. Condolences will be taken by the family one hour prior to the Celebration of Life from 3-4 PM.
