Barbara P. Skidmore

Barbara P. Skidmore, age 94 years, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Heritage Crossing.

Barbara was born in Akron April 29, 1932, and lived in the area all of her life. She was the daughter of the late Z.R. and Esther (Hoff) Prentiss. Barbara was a 1950 graduate of Garfield High School and continued her education at Kent State University where she received her master’s degree in nutrition. She was the lead nutritionist for Barberton Health Department WIC program, where she worked from 1976 to 1996. Barbara was a lifelong member of First Congregational Church of Akron, where she was involved in her earlier years in women’s fellowship and volunteered to help out regularly. She was an avid gardener – always had a large garden to support healthy eating long before it became a recent movement. Barbara enjoyed animals and nature. She took in many stray cats and enjoyed watching the deer and birds that came to her feeders. In Barbara’s early years, she enjoyed skiing locally and on a special adventure to the French Alps. She also enjoyed sewing and reading.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, David B. Skidmore; sister, Margaret Nairn and granddaughter, Jessica Biege. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Hugh and Julie Biege of Copley; grand-daughters Alexandria Biege of Akron and Caroline (Dylan) Schwarz of Wadsworth; great-grandchildren Reid, Ellie, Raegan and Logan; and beloved nieces and nephews and their families.

Services honoring Barbara’s life will be held on Friday October 23rd at Billow Funeral Home FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 North Miller Road. Friends will be received at noon, with a memorial service to follow at 1 PM with Pastor Joe Caruso of Grace Church (Bath) officiating. Inurnment to follow at Mount Peace Cemetery.
