Carl Smilan

Carl (Bob) Smilan passed away suddenly in his home on January 28. Carl was a resident of Richfield for over 65 years. He was deeply loved by his wife of 40 years, Kathy (nee Taylor). "Take my hand. Take my whole life, too. For I can't help falling in love with you."

Carl was a devoted father to daughters Lauren (Ben) Edwards and Jennifer Smilan (fiance Mike Jones); Dearest son of Nancy nee Sharwark, and Carl Franklin Smilan (deceased); Eldest brother of Bruce (Mary), Paul, Teri (Greg) Gorecki, and Mary (Ray) Clark; in-laws Chuck Taylor (Diane Daniel) Micky (John) Keogh and Judi (deceased) (Ron) Bunda; Uncle of many nephews and nieces.

He was a proud graduate of Padua Franciscan High School, class of 1970. He obtained a Bachelor's in Education from the University of Toledo and Master’s from the University of Akron. He was an educator for his entire career. Well known for his hard working, outgoing personality and quick wit, Carl was a loyal friend to many.

Calling hours will take place SUNDAY, February 8, 2026, from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Fairlawn, OH 44333 where a short service will take place at 4:00 PM. The family requests that no flowers be sent.
