Connie Anne (Newlin) Drennon, 83, of Fairlawn, passed away on August 11, 2025, at Akron Summa Health Hospital after a short illness.
Mrs. Drennon, a Fairlawn resident for 50 years, was born to Mary (Noble) Newlin and Col. Charles Albert “Burt” Newlin on May 11, 1942, in Manhattan, Kansas. As a true “Army Brat,” Connie lived on many Army bases and moved throughout the US, the Philippines, and England, but resided primarily at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and at her mother's childhood home in Bruneau, Idaho. She was a proud graduate of the London Central American High School in Bushy Park, London, England, mentioning often that it was converted from a former World War II military establishment.
After graduation from Bushy Park, Connie met and married Clarence B. Drennon on June 21, 1963 when her family was stationed in California. She obtained BS degrees from Alfred University in New York and from the University of Akron. After settling in Fairlawn, she served as a Food Service Manager for Akron General Hospital, using her degree in home economics, but primarily worked as a long-time substitute teacher in the Akron, Copley and Norton City School Systems where she put her degree in education to use.
Connie was an avid seamstress and thoroughly enjoyed quilting and sewing. She insisted that skill was passed down to her daughter (she tried) and grandchildren. Her many creations were passed down to relatives and some work-in-progress projects were left for others to complete. Her family will miss her sharing of various newspaper clippings about life, crossword puzzles, recipes, and notable sports stories and historical happenings.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, aunts and uncles. She is survived by Dr. “CB” Drennon, her husband of 62 years; her daughter Megan (Roger) Gaul of Union, Ohio; her son Andrew (Deborah) Drennon of Rockville, Maryland; as well as her grandchildren Miranda, Abigail, and Lindsay Gaul and Lily and Evan Drennon.
At her request, there are to be no public services. At a later time, a Celebration of Life may be held.
Services in care of the Billow Funeral Homes and Crematory, Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Fairlawn, OH 44333.
