David J. Smith, 76, passed away peacefully October 25, 2009 surrounded by his family.
Born in Akron, he lived here all of his life. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from B.F. Goodrich. David was a well known jazz musician that played in several local bands. He was a member of Bath Church UCC, Men's Garden Club and Theta Chi Fraternity.
Preceded in death by his son, Stephen; he is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Nancy; sons, David Michael Melody, Thomas Lee Maribel; granddaughters, Cynthia George Rios, Maritza Smith; great-grandson, Nicholas Rios; brothers, Arthur Garina, Malcolm Julie; sister, Lucella Wiley; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday at Bath Church UCC, 3980 W. Bath Rd., Akron with Rev. Mark W. Frey officiating. Private burial at Ira Cemetery. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron. If desired, memorials may be made to the Bath Church UCC.
