Douglas E. Palmer, age 89, of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
He was born March 3, 1936, in Zanesville, OH, son of the late George and Grace Palmer.
Douglas retired from Cuyahoga Valley National Park in 2001 after 25 years of dedicated service as a Recreation Specialist. He also worked as the Zanesville Parks and Recreation Director for 13 years. He was a teacher and coach at Hancock Jr. High School. He was a 1959 graduate of Muskingum University with a bachelor’s degree in education.
Douglas was a total Family Man, loved all family gatherings and especially being part of the Palmer babysitting team for his grandchildren. He loved traveling by car, plane, ship, or train. He has visited every state in the United States except for North Dakota. He has traveled most of the Caribbean Islands, as well as Ireland. His motto throughout life was LIVE, LOVE AND LAUGH.
Douglas is survived by his devoted wife, Maryjane Hajek Palmer; cherished children, Amy Ann Palmer, Mark Douglas Palmer, and Mary Lynn Palmer Young (Christopher); loving stepchildren, Michael Procyshyn (Danica), and Deborah Procyshyn; treasured grandchildren, Brittanie Palmer, Matthew Dicks (Katie), Cooper Procyshyn, Sophia Procyshyn, Evan Procyshyn, Graham Procyshyn, and Aidan Young.
Memorial mass will take place on SATURDAY, August 30, 2025, at 10:00 A.M., at St. Bernard Parish, 44 University Ave. Akron, OH 44308.
