Elizabeth Ann Hertle, 86, died October 11, 2009.

Elizabeth Beth was born on May 26, 1923 in Akron and was a life-long resident. Her parents were Ruth Elizabeth Swope Kirk and Alexander Stewart Kirk. She attended Buchtel High School and graduated from University of Akron and was a member of Omega Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. Elizabeth had her own catering business, was a third grade teacher at Northampton now Woodridge Elementary School and was a Girl Scout Leader for 12 years and an American Camping Association Trainer for eight years. As an active member of Christ United Church, she started a book club and helped with AARP dinners and knitting group. At Lion's Lodge she enjoyed caning chairs.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ivan Edward Hertle; son, Richard Margaret of Stow Ohio; daughters, Beverly Ann Hertle of Urbana, Ill. and Gail Lynn Hawkins Jerry of Houston Texas; grandchildren, Scott Jennifer and David Cris Hertle of the Akron area, Christine William Hartshorne of Columbus Ohio, Jana Zollinger of Urbana, Ill., Marc Zollinger of Eugene, Ore., Michael Rennie Stacey of the Houston, Texas area, Gwyn Vogt Jared of the Chicago Ill. area; great-grandchildren, Jana Smith, Patrick, Joseph and David Vogt, Cody Rennie, Connor and Daniel Hartshorne, and Lauren and Logan Hertle.

A Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Christ United Methodist Church, with Rev. Benjamin J. Black, III officiating. A reception and fellowship will follow the service. A private family service will be held at a later date at Rose Hill Burial Park. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 380 Mineola Ave., Akron 44320.
