Florence Frances Wester

Florence Frances “Flo” Wester, age 92, of Akron, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 21, 2025. She was born January 29, 1933, in Barberton, OH; daughter of Josef and Joanne Bodnar (nee Frankowski).

Preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Lefty” Wester; and her son, Kevin Wester. She is survived and greatly missed by her son, Aaron (Vera) Wester; granddaughter, Amelia Rose Wester; Lorilei Gallagher; canine companion, Teddy; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Flo lived a life of service and dedication to her family and the nursing profession. She graduated from the Akron People’s (General) Hospital School of Nursing and later, obtained a BSN from the University of Akron. She worked as a nurse and teacher, and for 23 years as an Instructor and Assistant Administrator at the Idabelle Firestone School of Nursing at Akron City Hospital (Summa). After the school closed, she coordinated clinical practical programs at Akron City Hospital and St. Thomas Hospital for the BSN programs at the University of Akron, Kent State University, and Youngstown State University. She never said she “was” a nurse. In retirement, she enjoyed travel, golf, Buckeye sports, and especially time with family and friends.

Friends and family are invited to calling hours 4-7 P.M. FRIDAY May 2nd at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Rite of Christian Burial Mass will be celebrated 11 A.M. SATURDAY May 3rd at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Rd. Luncheon to follow at church. Private interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Flo’s name may be made to the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter, 9500 Sweet Valley Dr., Valley View, OH 44125.
