Frances Ann Williams, age 86 years, of Fairlawn, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Cleveland Clinic Akron General.
Fran was born December 4, 1939, in Huntington, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Elba and Lena (Wheeler) Peters. She started her career as a nurse in the burn unit at the Morgantown Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia. After moving to Akron, Fran was a nurse at Akron City Hospital. Later, she worked in family medicine for 15 years, and then as a nurse at Manor Care, Rocky Knoll Health Care Center, and as an admissions coordinator at the Village of St. Edward in Fairlawn where she retired.
In addition to her parents, Fran was preceded in death by her siblings: Charles Peters, Reda Bates, Freda Sanders, and Jean Bundy. She is survived by her children: Beth Humbel (Mark Steinkerchner), Scott Boso, Kim (David) Slate, Bob (Jamie) Williams, and Rhea (Dennis) Raney; grandchildren: Chris Humbel, Cara (Eddie) Campbell, Michael (Sam) Slate, Jarrod (Savannah) Raney, Rebecca (Ben) Varner, and Joe (Julie Ann) Williams, and many great-grandchildren.
Fran was a loving mother and grandmother who always wanted everyone to be happy. She loved to joke and was always up to hearing new ones. Through her career, she had many stories of people she touched and cared for. Because of her nursing background, she was always the caregiver for family and friends as they would lean on her when there was a cut, scrape, broken bone, and caring for the ill and aging. She never said “no.” She sometimes had a thankless job, but she felt better knowing she helped.
Fran loved her music and playing her piano. Music gave her comfort, especially in her later years when she could no longer play herself.
Fran’s family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, April 16 at The Billow Funeral Homes FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 North Miller Road, Fairlawn.
Fran was an organ donor. Deeply influenced by her time working in the burn unit in Morgantown, West Virginia, Fran made the decision to donate her skin to help others who have suffered burns. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Akron Children’s Hospital Foundation, Akron Children’s Adult and Pediatric Burn Unit, One Perkins Square, Akron, Ohio 44308; or at https://give.akronchildrens.org.
