Gary Don Hunter , 76, passed away suddenly and peacefully on August 15th, 2022.
Gary was born on March 8th,1946 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was raised in Newton, Iowa and enlisted in the Navy in 1965. Shortly after high school, he met the love of his life, Linda Dianne Arment.
His parents, Don Hunter and Bette Cockerham preceded him in death. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 55 years, Linda Hunter; daughter, Megan (Joel) Conrad of Fairlawn Ohio; son, Matthew (Melody) Hunter of Copley Ohio; siblings David (Millie) Hunter of Akworth Iowa, Daniel (Kim) Hunter of Kellogg, Iowa, Nancy Manuel of Melcher-Dallas, Iowa; grandchildren Olivia (Benjamin) Jarvis of Birmingham, Alabama, Ethan Hunter of Copley, Ohio, Carly and Anna Conrad of Fairlawn, Ohio.
If there was ever a person who didn’t need an obituary, it is Gary. He proudly served his country for 20 years in the Navy where he spent eleven years of active duty, sailing on submarines and achieving the Chief Petty Officer rank. He spent the following nine years in the Reserves, leveraging his Navy education to build his career in computer software working for companies including Technicare, GE, Telxon, Aironet and DDS Systems. He was someone you always wanted on your team. He enjoyed his years as a road warrior closing sales that many were not able to do. He worked tirelessly and fiercely because he loved what he did. His thirst for knowledge was never ending. While his career was an important part of his life, what made him the happiest was spending time with his beloved ‘my sweet’ wife, children, grandchildren and close friends. He was the most dedicated husband, father, grampy and friend anyone could ask for. Dropping everything to lend a hand, help fix something, check on houses and grandpets or be the designated driver. He loved being the ‘go to’ guy and could always be enticed with a diet coke. Gary and Linda moved many times throughout their lives either with the Navy or career opportunities. They never said no to an adventure whether it was with their camping club or the many vacations they took with each other, family or friends. They especially loved their time in Hawaii and most recently a trip to Germany. For those that knew him, he was a legend, often being referred to as “MacGyver”. His unique ability to fix any issue whether it was technology, electrical, automotive, camping, or anything in between was uncanny. He was known for having every possible tool needed to complete any task. In addition to all the tools, he owned all the toys one could ever imagine, a blow up screen to watch movies, a telescope to stargaze or any size flashlight with varying degrees of brightness. While Gary (Grampy) will be greatly missed by all that knew him, we know he will forever be ‘On the Road Again’.
