Gundega Lojek passed away on May 27, 2025, at the age of 91. She was born on October 5, 1933, in Latvia. During WWII, her family was forced to flee their home to Germany where they lived for several years until they were sponsored by a family in the US. They lived and worked on a farm for a number of years which is where she eventually met her husband, Stanley. They then built a life together in Bath, Ohio and would be married for 72 years before his passing less than 2 years ago. She was a founding member of Bethel Lutheran Church beginning 60 years ago where she committed considerable time to many activities and events. She was a volunteer tour guide at Stan Hywet for 20 years. Gundega loved gardening and for years she maintained beautiful flower gardens at her home. But her pride and joy was her family. She would repeatedly tell her caregivers at Vitalia Nursing facility how much she loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Stanley; parents Arvids and Otilija Krumins; and sister Aija Lojek. She is survived by many who will cherish her memories including son Joey (Kim) Lojek; daughters Vicki (Lee) Goldman, Sylvia (Mark) Harrison and Cindy (Mike) Jack; grandchildren Missy (Bob) Linc, Joshua Harrison, Megan (Eric Bowers) Lojek, Nathanael (Rajal) Harrison, Shanon (Joey) Marginian, Chelsea Goldman, Sean Lojek, Michael (Shannon) Goldman, Morgan (Jake) Corfman and Jacob Goldman; and 8 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a garden yourself and admire the beauty as Gundega always did. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church at PO Box 207 Bath, Ohio 44210 in Gundega’s name. A private memorial service will take place on June 25th.
