Irene H Danesis

June 27, 1916 — October 12, 2009

Irene H. Danesis, 93, was received into the loving arms of her Lord on Monday, October 12, 2009.

Irene was born in Akron, Ohio on June 27, 1916 and was an area resident for most of her life, except for a year when the family returned to Greece. She married George Danesis in 1934 and enjoyed their many trips back to Greece visiting family and friends until his untimely death in 1970.

Irene loved cooking and baking the Greek cuisine to which her family says, "none can compare". Her hands were always busy with the intricate needlework she so lovingly created and would then share with friends and family. Her greatest pride was the petite point chairs she needlepointed, which graced her dining room. She is a member of the Greek Orthodox Church and was a past member of the Women's City Club, Daughters of Penelope and a 50-year member of Melissa. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, her greatest joy was spending time with the all the children that so fondly called her "Do-Do" and Yiayia!

She was preceded in death by husband, George Danesis; son, Charles; parents, Spiros and Magdaline; mother-in-law, Metaxia; brothers, Jerry Colombes and Gus Colombes; sister Sophie Saros and grandson George Danesis .

She is survived by daughter, Madeline Danesis; sons, Louie Helen, Gregory Katie, Michael Pam; sisters, Katherine Nick Bymakos, Angie Goges; sister-in-law, Mary Colombes; seven grandchildren, Perry, Renee, Gina, Jeffrey, Samantha, Stephanie and Alexander; five great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends in the United States and Greece.

Services will be held 12:30 p.m. FRIDAY at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union St., with Rev. Fr. Jerry F. Hall officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
