Dorris Benson

It is with deep sadness, but with peace in our hearts, that we announce the passing of Jane Dorris Benson on July 25, 2025, in Naples Florida. She was 87.

Dorris was born on April 8, 1938 in Cullman, Alabama to parents, James and Jewell Higdon.

Dorris was an avid gardener, and served her community through 15 years of devoted service on the Granger Township Zoning Board. Dorris was a member of Montrose Zion United Methodist Church for over 60 years, and attended East Naples United Methodist Church during the winters spent in Naples Florida.

Dorris was married to Robert C. Benson on May 25, 1961, in Akron Ohio. During their 64 years of marriage, Dorris and Robert lived in both Medina, Ohio and Naples, Florida.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James & Jewell Higdon; her twin brother, Morris Higdon (Doris); and younger brother, John Higdon. Dorris is survived by, and leaves behind, her husband, Robert C. Benson; her only son, Robert C. Benson II (Mary) of Franklin, TN; four grandchildren: Nicholas Benson (Charlotte) of Louisville, KY, Molli Deaton (Chris) of Franklin, TN, Cole Benson of Franklin, TN, and Rylie Benson of Franklin, TN; one great grandchild, Oliver Benson; and sister in law Doris Higdon.

Funeral Service 11 A.M. SATURDAY August 9th, 2025 at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Road Fairlawn, OH 44333. Friends and family are cordially invited to calling hours two hours prior to the funeral. Interment at Reid Hill Cemetery in Granger Township immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Montrose Zion United Methodist Church, 565 N. Cleveland Massillon Rd, Akron, OH 44333 or to Granger Township Rescue and Fire Department, 2253 Medina Rd, Medina OH, 44256.
