Listen to Obituary

Jane, age 76, of Wadsworth, OH passed away suddenly Saturday June 7, 2025. She was born August 23,1948 in Akron to parents, Herbert and Pauline Pheneger. She grew up and was raised in Cuyahoga Falls, where she graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1966. She furthered her education and then became a legal secretary. She went on to marry her husband, Andrew Michaels.

The highlight of Jane’s life was her loving relationship with her late husband Andrew, who fondly referred to her as “Baby Jane.” Together their extraordinary years together improved the lives of so many.

Jane’s strong work ethic made her a tireless partner: helping Andrew to not only defend their clients, but also by helping with all family matters as well. Jane was an amazing cook. In her off time, she and her husband’s generosity continued by entertaining extended friends and family with gourmet meals.

All can attest to the fondest of memories they created: the 19th Hole gatherings, the lavish flowers Jane hand planted encompassing their entire property, and the Christmas wonderland parties Jane hosted with her traditional red lighted tree.

Jane made it a priority to maintain close relationships with so many of her family members, including the Reiglers: Carol, Dave, Bill and Tom. Mark Pilliod and more. She became and remained an integral part in the lives of her Michaels family in-laws as well: Janice, George, Angel, Art, Daniel, and stepchildren: Mark, Pamela and Stephanie. She maintained a relationship (later in life) with Andrew’s first wife, Elaine Davenport, who had a standing invitation to Jane’s Christmas Eve dinners. The list continues, although none was closer than her sister-in-law and confidant, Sally Hartley Michaels. The two were inseparable. Their laughter was infectious, making them the highlight of any gathering.

Aunt Jane, or “Granny Jane” as she was affectionately known, was far above the typical loving aunt and grandmother. Her caring way forged unique, impactful relationships with her many nieces, nephews, and their grandchildren. Beth, Amanda, John, Ben, Gina, Mark and their children, Bart N, Mark M, Jeannie, Brianna, Carli M. Most notably her close relationships with Simon and Brandon Pheneger, and grandson Andrew Michaels.

She treasured her ritual Saturday breakfasts and playing euchre with Mary and Kathy, her lifelong friends. She enjoyed her card playing with friends Kendra, Debbie (“BFF”), and Nancy, as well. These events were filled with abundant laughter as long as no one took her money!

Preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Pauline Pheneger; husband, Andrew Michaels; and nieces, Beth Pheneger and Miriam White; and baby, Tennezyn Hadler. She is survived by brothers, Richard (Carole) Pheneger and John (Diane) Pheneger.

Those who knew her have described her as the epitome of class and dignity. All fortunate to be graced by her life were rewarded with overwhelming generosity and kindness. The loss of her passing is immeasurable to us all.

A private Celebration of Jane’s life will be scheduled for a later date. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Billow Funeral Homes and Crematory, FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Road Fairlawn, OH 44333 (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
