Jeffrey John Gatsie, born September 21, 1963, in Akron, Ohio, was a man who found joy in the simple things in life, took pride in his work, valued the friendships he built, and always had a soft spot for family and animals.
Jeff was born to John Gatsie and Dolores Horning. He graduated from Firestone High School in 1981 and went on to attend the Akron Institute for Small Engine Repair, where he pursued his interest in mechanics and working with his hands.
Jeff had a lifelong passion for vehicles, cars, engines, and equipment. That passion carried into his career when he began working at Summit Racing in 1987. After years of learning, growing, and building his experience, Jeff decided to venture out and turn his skills into a business. In 1993, alongside his great friend Johnny Christoff, he started J&J Lawncare. What began as a business built on hard work and friendship became an important part of Jeff’s legacy. He took great pride in his work and the business he built over the years.
Outside of work, Jeff enjoyed the things that brought him comfort, happiness, and curiosity. He loved learning and could often be found watching documentaries and The History Channel, exploring new technology, or enjoying his favorite British television shows. He also had a special appreciation for his man caves, each reflecting his interests, personality, and love for creating a space of his own. And no matter the season or time of year, you could almost always find him watching the Hallmark Channel. Some of his sweetest moments were spent watching cartoons with his grandsons, Maverick and Marshall, enjoying the simple happiness of being together. Jeff had a way of making the everyday things he enjoyed a part of who he was.
Jeff was someone who truly valued the people in his life. He cherished his friendships, held a special place in his heart for his family in Florida and Ohio, and was known by many. He loved bringing people together, staying connected, and being there for those who mattered to him. He also had a heart for animals, always seeming to have room for one more dog and never passing up an opportunity to help a friend in need.
Above all, Jeff deeply loved his wife, Lisa, and the life they shared. He leaves behind his loving wife, Lisa Gatsie (née Georgantis); his stepdaughter, Tiffany (Jonathan) Hartman; and his two beloved grandchildren, Maverick and Marshall, who brought so much joy to his life. He will also be fondly remembered by his many friends, extended family, and loved ones whose lives he touched throughout the years.
Jeff’s memory will live on through the stories shared, the memories created, the lessons he left behind, and the countless ways he made a difference in the lives of those around him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to an animal charity or local animal shelter in Jeff’s memory, honoring his lifelong love for animals.
