Jerry Papas

Jerry Papas, age 93, of Akron, passed away Monday, September 29, 2025.

He was born January 20, 1932, in Kefalonia, Greece, to Vasili and Mariantha Papalexatos. After saving his money by making & selling coal for months, he was able to earn enough for his boat passage. Jerry got a job right away at the Waldorf Astoria in New York as a waiter and would often share interesting and funny stories of the people he met like Jackie Gleason and others. He eventually made his way to Akron, OH and started a few successful businesses like Papas Construction and Papas Fine Dining Restaurant.

Jerry is survived by his partner, Joan Amon; children, Mariantha and Jerry Jr. (Mike); and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on TUESDAY, October 7, 2025, at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Fairlawn, OH 44333. Trisagion service to commence at 6:00 PM. Funeral service will take place on WEDNESDAY, October 8 at 11:00 AM at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union St. Akron, OH 44304. Interment immediately following in Mount Peace Cemetery.
