Merry "Joan" Mockbee

Merry “Joan” Mockbee, 86, of Bath, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her husband Charles of 66 years and loving family.

A cherished member of the family, church and local community, Joan’s passing has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew her. Joan was born in 1939 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was an active person attending Woodward High School before meeting her husband, Charles, at the University of Cincinnati. Joan and Chuck were married in 1960. Joan and Chuck eventually made their way north to the Cleveland and Akron area where they raised their 3 children and were blessed with 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Joan and Chuck started their own business, CAM, Inc., out of their home and developed it into a well-respected commercial real estate development company. Of the many strong relationships the couple formed, their employees were always considered part of the family.

Joan loved joining her family and friends on travels around the world, holiday events, Broadway shows or any opportunity to have a meal together. She was always willing to provide her help and support to anyone that came to her for advice or time. She loved cooking, spending time in her garden or volunteering in the community. She served on the Women’s Board at Akron City Hospital for many years as well as numerous positions at The Bath Church from Executive Boards to Moderator. She could frequently be found in the Church kitchen organizing a community meal or cooking with the ladies. Joan was a dedicated Girl Scout Leader and helped start the Revere Girls Softball League.

Left to cherish Joan’s memory is her husband, Charles “Chuck” Mockbee; children, Jeffrey (Tama) Mockbee, Traci Mockbee, and Michael (Patti) Mockbee; grandchildren, Megan (Mike) Caulfield, Mark Mockbee, Joseph Mockbee, Nicole Mockbee, Madelyn (Timothy Kent) Mockbee, Brittany Hunt, Lindsey Mockbee, Andrew Mockbee and Benjamin Hunt; great grandchildren, Charlie, Morgan and Margaret Caulfield. Sister, Maureen (Arthur) Plate; Mindy (Doug) Bower; Andrew (Gina) Plate.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Roseberda Wasserman; her brother, Jay Wasserman; Father in-law, Russel Mockbee and Mother in-law Lula Mockbee; and daughter in-law, JoAnne Mockbee (Valcho).

Family and friends are welcome to visit on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Billow’s Funeral Home, Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N. Miller Road, Akron, Ohio 44333 from 4pm until 7pm.

Service to be held Friday, October 2, 2026, 11am at Bath United Church of Christ, 3980 W. Bath Road, Bath, Ohio 44333. A private Interment for the family at Moore’s Chapel Cemetery, Bath Twp.
