Listen to Obituary

R. Harrison “Harry” Bolen, 82, died peacefully, surrounded by the love of his precious wife and stepdaughters after a sudden brief illness.

Harry lived a quiet unshakable faith undergirded by a deep spirituality. With wit and humor, he

was a natural storyteller. If you talked to him for long, you heard at least one story and probably several. This trait permeated his life and career, whether preaching, teaching Bible studies, or doing camp or campus ministry in his long career as an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), playing basketball in college or in the community, or gathering with family and friends.

Harry became a father to Deborah and Dominique through his first marriage. He married the love of his life, Deborah, in 1988, for which he never stopped being grateful. Through this marriage he felt so fortunate to gain Stephanie (Andrew) and Courtney. He was thrilled at the birth of his grandson Grant, who was a huge joy in his life. Also surviving are siblings Terry (Carol), John (Alice), Joy (Jeff), and Kathy, sister-in-law Valerie (Earl), and brother-in-law Mark, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. His sister Cheryl preceded him in death.

To honor Harry’s wishes, private burial has taken place and there will be no public funeral or calling hours. Harry asks that those of you who knew him share stories of him (as he said, “the good and the bad”) while you work, play, or break bread with your families or friends. He wishes peace to you all.
