Rex Odell Morgan, 89, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, passed away on November 3, 2025. He was born on September 22, 1936, in Rimersburg, Pennsylvania, to the late Donald and Elsie (McCoy) Morgan.
Rex was a 1954 graduate of Union Joint High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Clarion State Teachers College in 1958. He later completed a Master’s Degree in School Administration from the University of Akron. Education was Rex’s vocation and joy. He began his career teaching in the Crestwood Local School District before moving into administration, serving as principal in Waynesfield and Conneaut.
He spent the majority of his career with the Mentor Exempted Village School District, where he was especially proud to serve as principal of both Shore Junior High and Ridge Junior High. Widely admired for his leadership, innovativeness, and dedication to students and staff, Rex retired from Mentor in 1993. After retirement, Rex and his wife moved from Chardon, Ohio, to Savannah Lakes, South Carolina, before eventually returning to Ohio and settling in Cuyahoga Falls.
Rex will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, loving spirit, and quick-witted sense of humor. He loved being an educator, husband, father, and grandfather, and rarely missed an event involving his children or grandchildren. When his sons began coaching, he was always there to support their teams. He also especially enjoyed attending athletic events at Woodridge Local Schools. Outside of education and family life, Rex was an avid golfer and gardener, hobbies that brought him joy and kept him active.
Rex is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Diane (Mathias) Morgan, whom he married in 1960; his two sons, John (Sarah) Morgan and Joel (Susan) Morgan; granddaughters Jacqueline (James) McCready and Kate (Greg) Lawrence; and great-granddaughter Elizabeth Tully McCready.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Clark Morgan; sister, Betty Morgan; sister-in-law Helen Morgan; sister-in-law Marylou Sarbiewski; and brother-in-law Ed Sarbiewski.
