Roger M. Martanovic, 82, passed away on November 1, 2025. He was born on April 28, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Mathew and Dorothy Martanovic. He graduated from John Adams High School and Western Reserve University. Roger also served in the Coast Guard Reserve for six years. He and his wife Sue (Cosier) were married for 59 years.
Roger was detail oriented and worked with computers from mainframes to laptops. He worked as a systems analyst in the Information Systems Department, first for Republic Steel and ended his career with Accenture in 2001. In his retirement, he enjoyed over 20 cruises, golfing in multiple leagues, and being a grandpa.
Roger was best known as a family man. He was actively involved in raising his three daughters. In addition to attending countless musical performances and sporting events for his three daughters and later six grandchildren, he modeled the importance of volunteering. He was a long-time active member of Advent Lutheran Church in Solon, serving in multiple leadership positions on council and as pitcher for the church softball team in the 70s and 80s. He was a 65-year member of the American Sokol Organization (a Czech cultural organization) serving in multiple leadership roles at the unit, district, and national level. He served as treasurer for the Bedford Band Boosters and as a band camp chaperone for the marching band for five years.
Roger is survived by his wife, Sue; daughters, Linda (Matt) Downing, Barb (Paul) Hinderegger, and Kathy (Ian) Smith; and grandchildren, Jacob and Jessica Downing, Mark and Amy Hinderegger, and Samantha and Sydney Smith.
A visitation will be held Friday, November 7, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 pm at The Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N Miller Rd, Akron, OH. A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 8, 2025, beginning at 11:00 am at Fairlawn Lutheran Church, 3415 West Market St. Fairlawn, OH with visitation one hour before the service. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roger’s memory to Sokol Greater Cleveland, 4939 Broadway Ave., Cleveland, OH 44127.
