Scott David Myers

Scott David Myers lived a "good life!"

That life, far too short, was exemplified as a devoted, loving husband, father, friend and entrepreneurial visionary. His commitment to guiding individuals and organizations will leave a long and impactful legacy of personal discovery of God's design for life, work, community and human flourishing. An author of more than 30 books, Scott believed deeply that the Gospel is not merely about the promise of where we go after we die, but about building good places here and now where people can thrive. Due to complications of ALS, Scott journeyed June 13, 2026 from his earthly home into the eternal presence of our Lord. He was only 66.

The son of the late Stanley and Pauline (nee Williams), Scott leaves behind his wife, Gina Burk; daughters Ahren Myers and Ariel (Dylan) Finegan; three grandchildren Ellie, Deklan and Joelle; three brothers Dana, Seth and David; sisters-in-law Barb and Jane; mother-in-law Neva; brother-in-law Dan; nieces and nephews Haley (Don), Lindsey (Joe), Kendall, Michelle, Seth (Brad), Maddie, Amethyst, Luke and numerous beloved friends.

As an author, publisher, poet and photographer, Scott believed having curiosity about all of creation was a primary part of God's love language to us. Scott's writings consistently pointed people toward God's ongoing work of transformation in our hearts and lives, producing love, justice and shalom in the world around us. He legitimately lived a philosopher's life, seeking to understand the question, "What is everything?" As a result, he developed a considerable body of work, and an expansive library.

What made Scott's vision so powerful was that it flowed from the character of the man himself. He was remarkably humble, never seeking recognition for his ideas or his accomplishments and he embodied the grace he wrote about... quick to listen, generous with encouragement and support of all types, and deeply committed to serving others. Wise and brilliant, yet always unassuming, kind and approachable, Scott quietly supported many who needed help. He embodied Romans 12:10, "Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves."

Father and Husband

Scott's daughters, Ahren and Ariel describe their Dad as "their rock, 'Google before Google,' goofy and a patient teacher at heart." Famously, he was someone who never gave a simple answer. Ahren once asked a question about a church building and he shared centuries of church history. Ariel asked for a remote control car for Christmas one year and he gave her the kit to build one. He wanted his girls to "figure it out for themselves," but made sure they had tool kits and could drive a standard shift car. He wholeheartedly passed on to them his deep love of reading, photography, music and nature and he cherished every moment as "Papa" to his three grandchildren.

In 1998, he married Gina and often said God had prepared him for her. Together, they combined their creativity, passions for collaborative community-building and creation care to serve faithful leaders across all civic sectors, locally, nationally and internationally. Too numerous to list in their entirety, they do include Akron's Love Akron, Open M, South Street Ministries, The Greater Akron Innovation Network for Sustainability (GAINS), Good Cities, and Living City Farms, their visionary regenerative farming endeavor operating at their restored 1840's farmhouse.

In Gina's words, "Scott was joyful, fun-loving, delightfully mischievous (as his many friends will confirm), and a pure lover of Wisdom. I often prayed for wisdom and I ended up marrying wisdom." As a couple, they enjoyed running, biking, hiking, engaging in wonderful conversation and taking walks together in the Summit Metro Parks, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and the many states and countries they visited in their travels. They participated in annual adventure races and the Akron Marathon, relaxing afterward by cruising in one of Scott's restored vintage Triumph convertibles or enjoying one of his personally created vegetarian meals they shared with family or friends. He loved his kitchen.

Writer, Photographer, Publisher and Student

Scott was "all things books - a bibliophile in earnest." He read, wrote, crafted, bound, repaired, collected and published books. He loved and studied page design, typography and paper-making. Scott built libraries in his homes and came "alive" visiting public and private libraries wherever he traveled. He captured life and shared it in words and through the unique view of his favorite Leica camera. Metaphorically, Scott himself was an open book to people, befriending everyone. Scott's writings cast a compelling vision of what he called, "Eutopia," not a perfect place, but a "good" place where people live in harmony with God, one another and the world He created. Through his Eutopia book collection he authored, Scott shared his theological perspectives on work, leadership and organizational purpose, challenging leaders to "think differently" and serve something greater than their bottom line. These works can be found at Good Place Publishing, an entity Scott founded more than 20 years ago. His devotion was pure, and real, and he desired above all else to live as dearly loved children of God to walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. A 1978 graduate of Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, Scott earned Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy, History and English Literature, all while playing college soccer at Houghton College in Houghton, New York. Postponing his desire to write, Scott began his career with Tallmadge-based SD Myers, a family business providing transformer maintenance and service. During his 43-year tenure, Scott served in a variety of roles, from Field Technician to Department Manager and ultimately as President of the company. In 2015, under his leadership and vision, SD Myers became "Good Place Holdings," a company without owners, corporate investors or shareholders. Guided by principles derived from God's Word, Scott led the organization for nine years and sought to reinvest resources into its members to help them grow and reach their full potential... to create lasting impact and good places... ones that would live far beyond his involvement and continue to guide future generations of leaders. In work and life, Scott was a kind, humble, witty, other-centered and profoundly faithful man and his inspired vision, lived values and unwavering commitment will continue on to connect faith, work and purpose.

A Memorial Service will be held on SATURDAY, June 27, 2026, at 1:30pm at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1361 West Market St. Akron, Ohio 44313 with a reception to follow.
