Shirley A. Dorsey

Shirley A. Dorsey, 94, of Akron passed away at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center on February 15, 2026.

Shirley was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Chester and Dorothea Ballard on November 29, 1931. She attended Richmond High School and Earlham College in Indiana. Before graduating from college she met and married Ken in 1953 and following his service in the U.S. Army in the Korean War the couple moved to Akron. Shirley worked as a librarian at Anne T. Case Elementary School for many years before retiring to enjoy time with her family. Shirley was a very active member of Ghent Christian Church serving as a Deaconess. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Shirley loved traveling, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family.

Proceeded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth E. Dorsey Sr., daughter Tamara Hale, son-in-law Daniel Hale and grandchild Rebekah Hale, she is survived by her son Kenneth (Cynthia) Dorsey Jr. of Fairlawn and grandchildren Sarah, Rachel, and Edward, all of Ashland, Ohio.

Shirley's family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of AGMC on 4100, the ICU, and Hospice Care Center for their care and support; and their friends for their prayers. And also a special thank you to Melissa, Jean and the rest of the team who helped with Shirley's home care.

Friends may call on WEDNESDAY, February 25, 2026 from 5-7 PM at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Interment THURSDAY, February 26, 2026 at 2:15 PM at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd. Seville, OH 44273.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to Shriners Children's Ohio.
