Listen to Obituary

Suellen Palumbo, of Stow, Ohio, passed away on December 21, 2025, at the age of 84. She was a proud Halloween baby, born October 31, 1941, to Edith and Russell Dulaney, in Petroleum, West Virginia.

After spending a couple years teaching Home Economics in the Akron Public School System, Sue worked and eventually retired as a sales associate for Sears, where she “kept up with the guys.” Although she formally taught for just a couple of years, she spent her life as a teacher to many. She thrived teaching her grandchildren the fine arts of cooking, sewing, and gardening, and instilling in them the ongoing desire to learn. As a life-long learner herself, Sue dabbled in an array of activities like painting and stain glass making. What she loved most, however, was designing and making quilts. She was a member of various Quilt Guilds in Northeast Ohio, and even started and maintained her own quilting business for years after retirement.

Sue was easy to talk to and happily made friends everywhere she went. She also loved animals, doting on her own cats and the multitude of family dogs. She would often reminisce about the cats, dogs, and horses on the farm where she grew up.

Suellen is survived by her daughter Joann, son John (Jane), and four grandchildren: Matthew (Kelly), Madeline (Jeff), Emily (Dan), and Vincent. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, and brother Steve.

Cremation has taken place. The family plans to honor her privately at a later date.

Thank you to Kentridge Senior Living for providing a safe and engaging environment for Suellen during the last weeks of her life.
