Susan Ann Ward

Susan Ann Ward, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend, passed away on August 30th, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family. Born on December 1, 1951, Sue was the daughter of Dick and Mary Ellen Amos. She deeply admired her father, whose example and influence remained important throughout her life. Dick’s second wife, Marilyn Amos, was also a cherished part of Sue’s family.

Sue moved from Columbus to Akron at age 20 and met Larry while they were both working at Fairlawn Country Club. During their 52 years of marriage, they built a family and a life filled with cherished memories, laughter, and love. She was a dedicated mother to Andy and his wife, Joann; Tom and his wife, Katie; and Beth Kelley and her husband, Ryan.

Sue committed much of her life to education. She was a teacher at Copley-Fairlawn Schools, where she made a lasting impact on her students and colleagues. After retiring, Sue continued doing what she loved by serving as a substitute teacher at St. Hilary School.

Nothing brought Sue greater happiness than being a grandmother. Her grandchildren, who were affectionately known as Grandma’s “peeps,” were Charlie, Allie, Daniel, Grace, Sydney, Sam, Chris, and Hazel, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

She will be lovingly remembered by her siblings, Rick Amos and his wife, Kyong Hui, Jane McKenney and her husband, Dave, Charlie Amos and his wife, Melissa, Jody Geraci, and Steve Fulkman and his wife, Jaclynn, along with many extended family members and friends whose lives she touched.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Mary Ellen Amos, Marilyn Amos; her brothers, Jeff and Scott Fulkman; brother-in-law Gary Ward, sister-in-law Kathy Amos; and brother-in-law Jimmy Geraci.

Sue loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and treasured every opportunity to be together. She could often be found working on a puzzle, sharing her daily Wordle results, or preparing cards for family and friends. These everyday moments brought her great joy. She leaves a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity that will live on through her husband, children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Calling hours will be MONDAY, September 7th, from 3–6 p.m., with funeral services TUESDAY, September 8th, at 11 a.m., both at Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Road, Akron 44333. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Copley Outreach Center in Sue’s memory.
