William E. Genung, age 94, peacefully passed away on November 1, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 25, 1931 in Akron, Ohio and was the oldest child of Anita and William E. Genung, Sr. His brother, Robert, preceded him in death.
He attended Cuyahoga Falls schools and graduated from Georgia Military Academy in 1949. He went on to earn an engineering degree from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1953. Shortly after, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served on a team designing silos for the Atlas Rocket Program.
Bill met his wife Judy while they were on a double-date with others, but soon they got together and married.
They started a family and moved to Hudson in 1966. Bill started his career as a mechanical engineer but eventually found his niche in sales and management for Fife, a large firm that designed and engineered innovative manufacturing products.
Bill traveled a lot for work but was still very involved in the community and enjoyed social times with neighbors and friends. He loved the outdoors and spent weekends golfing, biking or hiking. His calendar was always filled with monthly bridge games, stock club or various supper clubs.
In retirement, they traveled extensively, visiting 49 of the states along with Canada and Mexico.
Bill and Judy enjoyed life to the fullest and were blessed to have 64 wonderful years together before Judy passed in 2024.
Bill had an extraordinary gift for connecting with others and always placed his friends and family at the center of his life. He has left a legacy of genuine caring and curiosity for all those around him, and of devoted love and support for all his friends and family.
Bill was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He had four children. His oldest son Steve preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, David, Karen Schmidt (Peter), and Diane Powell (Dave) and his grandchildren, Karen Doolittle (Ricky), Kevin Powell (Lauren), Jonathan Schmidt, Isabelle Schmidt and Jason Powell (Elizabeth), and his great grandchildren, Laina Doolittle, Weston Powell and Hollyn Doolittle (and two more on the way).
