William Howard Wood

William Howard Wood "Bill", 82, passed away peacefully at his home on August 19, 2025, and is now in the glory of God. He was born in Cleveland, OH on October 11, 1942 to parents William J and Lenore Wood. He was a 1960 graduate of Brush High School and attended Kent State University where he met his wife Sharon, he then became an independent insurance agent in Akron. After being drafted and serving his country in Vietnam he returned home to Akron where has been a resident for the last 55 years.

He is preceded in death by his wife Sharon of 52 years as well as his parents. He is survived by his daughter Eileen (Rob) Kerr; his sister Cheryl (John) Zito; beloved grandchildren Kelly and Noah; niece Erika (Michael) Scott and great nephew and niece Cameron and Mia, as well as extended family and many close friends who were truly family to him.

Bill loved to golf and ride his bike on the towpath, he loved to attend local theaters and enjoyed many local music performances during the summers.

He loved to spend time in Vermont with family and friends and appreciated the beauty of the mountains and rivers. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren playing cards and games and he was always at their band performances and sporting events, where he was their biggest fan.

Bill was also a lifelong member of Fairlawn Lutheran Church where he actively volunteered his time as a greeter, usher, elder and making braille bibles for the blind. He spent over 50 years every Sunday at FLC hearing the word of God and reminding his family and friends to always "keep the faith."

Bill was an active member of our community and will be greatly missed by many.

Friends and family may attend calling hours on FRIDAY, August 29, 2025, from 3:00 – 4:00 PM at Fairlawn Lutheran Church, 3415 W. Market St., Fairlawn, OH 44333 where funeral service will commence at 4:00 PM.
