Jack and Gloria Montgomery Obituary

Jack L. Montgomery, 93 years old, previously of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, passed away on December 22, 2020. Gloria A. Montgomery, 90 years old, passed away on December 18, 2020. Both lived the past 17 years in Cornelius, NC.

Jack and Gloria were born in Akron, Ohio and graduated from North High School. Jack served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater of Command. He always said it taught him discipline. In 1947, he started work at the Bankers Guarantee Title and Trust Company in Akron. His first job was an Abstracter, and after 3 years he started working in the Mortgage department. He computerized the accounting department, grew the mortgage servicing from $47 million to $260 million, and became assistant treasurer and secretary for seven companies that Bankers owned. Later he became Treasurer, Secretary and Vice President for the companies. Before retirement in 1997, he became President and Chairman of the Board of the companies and served as Director of the Sheraton All Suites Hotel in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Gloria taught piano to many children in the Akron-Cuyahoga Falls area in our home. She also played for many dance recitals and was the pianist in a group called “We Three.” She worked at the AAA for many years and later in HR at the O’Neil’s Downtown department store.

Jack and Gloria met in high school when Jack was giving a speech about the Honor Society at the junior high, where she was playing the piano for the assembly. He was so impressed by her ability and beauty that he started dating her in 1948 after he returned from Europe. They were married on September 4, 1948 at the North Hill Church of Christ. They honeymooned in Niagara Falls and built their first house in 1953 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and joined the Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Jack and Gloria are survived by daughter, Susan (Ken) Maddock; granddaughter, Allison Drake of Cornelius, NC; daughter, Debra (John) Hreha of Baden, PA; granddaughter, Tracy (Paul) Kuchnicki of PA; grandson, Christopher (Jennifer) Hreha of PA; niece, Pat (John) Walter of Kent, Ohio; niece, Rebecca Graves of Anderson, SC; and nephew, Ric (Madelyn) Carter of Seneca, SC.

Jack and Gloria will be entombed at Rose Hill Burial Park, Fairlawn, Ohio. A celebration of life will be planned in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio later in 2021.
