James A Mally

James A. Mally, 88, died August 25, 2018.

Jim was born in Cleveland Heights, OH to the late Dr. and Mrs. James W. (Johanna) Mally. His father was a dentist and the Royal Yugoslav Consol in Cleveland.

Jim grew up in Mentor, OH and attended Case Institute of Technology, receiving a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. He met and married his wife, Phyllis (Wagner) in Akron and enjoyed 51 years of marriage. He joined the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and had a career spanning 38 years, primarily in the Polyester R & D Division. He received the prestigious "Dinsmore Award" in 1972 for his "innovative thinking in the development of new products". His hobbies were sports, woodworking and singing. He was a member and past president of the Akron Derbytown Barbershop Chorus and a founding member of the "Matinee Singers".

Jim and Phyllis raised three wonderful children, Steven, Laura and Bill and were blessed with 11 grandchildren. The whole family lived within 10 minutes drive, so they were back home often.

Preceded in death by wife, Phyllis; he is survived by children, Steven (Christine), Laura (Tom) Zuckett, and William (Rebecca); grandchildren, Jessica (Chris), Peter (Sofia), Marissa, Leah, Christopher, Joseph, Timothy, Paula, Jacob, Emily and Joshua; and soon expected great granddaughter.

Services will be held at 12 Noon SATURDAY at the Billow FALLS Chapel, 1907 23rd St., with his grandson, Peter Mally officiating. Private interment at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time on SATURDAY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to University Hospitals, Eye Institute, 11100 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106, First Congregational Church of Tallmadge, 85 Heritage Dr., Tallmadge, OH 44278, or to a favorite charity.
