Joan Ellen Marsh (Newmarker)

Joan Ellen Marsh (Newmarker) of Bath passed away on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Joan was 68 years old.

The daughter of the late Howard and Mary Ann Newmarker, Joan was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 3rd, 1953. After graduating from Brush High School in 1971, Joan went on to study physical therapy at Kent State. Her career as a physical therapist reflected her deeply caring heart and desire to help others. Joan met her husband Rich, the love of her life, in a chemistry class at Kent State. During their 39 years of marriage, Rich and Joan were an unbeatable pair, who showed everyone what true partnership and lifelong devotion looked like. Joan and Rich were happiest in their beautiful home, tending to their thriving gardens and cooking delicious meals together. Joan created a warm and welcoming home for all who entered. In addition to gardening, she enjoyed quilting, reading, spending time with her pets, and volunteering in the community.

To her daughters, Elizabeth and Kathleen, Joan was a cherished mother and steadfast supporter. She gave Liz and Kat the best childhood two girls could ever ask for, full of love, snuggles, and encouragement. Once her daughters reached adulthood, Joan loved visiting them in their respective homes of Boston and Nashville. The greatest joy in her life was becoming a grandmother to June in 2021. Joan instilled a sense of fierce determination and strength in both of her daughters, and they are proud to carry on her legacy. Joan faced an unfathomable amount of adversity in her life, and yet shouldered it with a strength and grace that belied her small frame. Her family was, and is, in constant awe of her resilience.

Joan is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth (David Lerner) and Kathleen (Colin Campbell), her granddaughter, June Campbell, her sister, Judy Winnegar, her brother, David Newmarker, numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends and loved ones.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 AM on Monday May 9, 2022 with a Mass at St. Victor Catholic Church 3435 Everett Rd. Richfield, Ohio 44286 with Fr. Allen Corrigan officiating. Family and friends may visit from 9-11 AM prior to the service on Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joan’s honor to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank or the Summa Foundation.
