Joyce Moore, RN Obituary

Joyce Ann Moore, RN, 75, passed away February 22, 2024, at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center following lengthy struggle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). While battling her disease Joyce was profoundly grateful for the professional, caring, and attentive caregivers at AGMC.
Joyce was born January 18, 1949, in Salem, Ohio to Harold (Pete) and Ruth John of Winona, Ohio. Joyce said many times over the years that “Winona was a wonderful place to grow up.”
Preceding Joyce in death was her father Pete, mother Ruth (Pike), brother Jerry (Gerald Warren John), sister-in-law Jean John, brother-in-law Roger Moore, and nephews Chad Henderson and Michael Lefanowicz.
Joyce is survived by her loving Husband Richard E. Moore (Rick). Married in 1986, Joyce and Rick truly walked together an example of love and partnership to the friends and family around them.
Joyce graduated from United High School in Hanoverton, Ohio, received a nursing diploma and became an RN at Akron General Medical Center School of Nursing, a BSN from Kent State University, and an MSN from University of Akron.
At AGMC over a career spanning 46 years Joyce was employed as a nurse and then nurse manager as Director of Nursing for 5200A. During this time Joyce’s passion was fostering nursing excellence and developing staff into caring competent individuals and team members. Seeing individuals develop into excellent caregivers was her highest calling and one of the biggest satisfactions in her life.
Joyce’s first passion may have been nursing but it didn’t diminish her love of puppy dogs, children, gatherings with friends and family, shopping, foraging for apples and berries ‘Up North’, exploring, sunsets, gardening with Kelli and John, reading novels, reading history to her husband during travels, being ‘Up North’ at the Old Trail, researching recipes and cooking, cookies, the color blue, being at ‘the farm’, in the Colorado mountains, on the beach, long walks in the woods, log cabins, or anywhere with “the Boys”.
Her favorite places included “the Old Trail Inn” in Good Hart, Michigan and ‘the Farm’ in Montpelier, Ohio especially with friends, family, and canines.
Joyce’s biggest challenges in life include dyslexia (“your other left Joyce”) and shyness. Her largest sacrifice and gift in life was allowing and supporting her husband to pursue his passions in life.
Joyce is survived by nephew Patrick John (Tiffiny); niece Jeanette Henderson, grandniece Kylie and grandnephew Dominic; brother-in-law Geoff Moore (Debbie), niece Stephanie Nawrocki (Brent) and nephew Greg Moore (Jen); sister-in-law Kelli Moore, nephew Roger Moore Jr. (Jill), niece Megan Scheuring (Brian); sister-in-law Jennifer Lefanowicz (Craig), niece Brianne Lefanowicz, and eleven grand nieces and nephews whom Joyce always enjoyed hearing about. And her special furry companion, Parker, with whom she shared a special bond and more than a few treats.
A gathering for Joyce’s family, friends, coworkers will be at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Road, Akron, OH 44333 on February 29th, 2024, from 4 to 7 pm with a short memorial service beginning at 6:15pm
