Khamtanh Rassavong, 85, of Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on August 4, 2023.
Born in Sam Neu, Laos, his life was a testament to compassion and service. A former second lieutenant in the Royal Lao Army, he exhibited courage and integrity. Mastering five languages, he worked at the Akron Health Department, bridging understanding for refugees who arrived in Akron between 1988 and 2003. Beyond being an interpreter, he empathized deeply due to his own refugee experience, aiding newcomers' integration by securing jobs and citizenship. Khamtanh's legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched, extending shelter and support by opening his own home to those in need.
Khamtanh was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, May Rassavong. He is survived by nine children Khek (Thongxay), Viengkham (May), Yia (Vilay), Phoxay (Loy), Nith (Ge), Bounleuth, Katy, Panethong (Doug), Khamla (Daphne), his 26 grandchildren and his 37 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday 1:00 PM, August 12, 2023 at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel and Crematory 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron, OH 44333.
