LTC Ronald Girard Obituary

LTC Ronald Girard died April 14, 2021. He was born in New Orleans, LA on November 16, 1936 and was a 26 year resident of Akron. He was a career U.S. Army military intelligence officer, specializing in signals intelligence and counter intelligence, retiring December, 1994. He received the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Army Meritorious Service Medal (1st OLC), and many others. After retiring from the Army, he earned a Master of Science Degree in Tax Accounting and became a Certified Public Accountant, serving on the accounting faculties of Florida Southern College and the University of Akron. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls, the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Military Officer Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Sr. and Louisa Girard, as well as brothers, Paul Girard, Jr. and Albert Girard.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rose, his daughters, Meredith Girard (Charles Kausch), Julia (Phillip) Sarnowski, and grandchildren, Emily, Ian, Alec (Emma), and Emma-Rose, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bradley Clifford, Dr. Rebekka Hom, as well as the physicians, nurses, and support staff at Akron City Hospital on 3 East and 7 East for their excellent and compassionate care.

There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation has taken place with internment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. A service to celebrate Ron's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, 714 N Portage Path, Akron, OH 44303.
