Penelope "Penny" Boyer Obituary

Penelope J. Boyer, age 85. Devoted and beloved wife of 58 years to Duane O. Boyer. Loving mother of Dr. K. Page Boyer (Kathleen P.) and Shereen D. Boyer. Cherished grandmother of Sophia C. L. Boyer and Olivia G. L. Boyer. Dear daughter of Delight J. Myers (nee Rydman) and sister of the late Earl R. Myers and Thomas O. Myers. Also survived by many dear friends. Penny will be remembered for her radiant smile, warmth, eternal optimism, deep and abiding faith, and wonderful sense of humor and playfulness. Her life overflowed with the love of her family, treasured friends, and beloved pets--all of whom she valued above everything else. Penny was born in Toledo, Ohio and she and Duane grew up together in the same neighborhood. Penny attended DeVilbiss High School--where she was a majorette and the Homecoming Queen--and worked at her uncle's drugstore, where she would often make strawberry ice cream sodas for her future husband, Duane, the football captain at Macomber High School. Theirs was truly a lifelong love affair. Penny attended the College of Pharmacy at the University of Toledo and worked as the executive secretary to R.A. Stranahan, Jr., Champion Spark Plug Co. president and chairman to put herself through school. Upon graduation, Penny and Duane moved to New Jersey where Penny was a technical proofreading editor for a Big Five publisher. When the family returned to Ohio to make their home in the Berea and Middleburg Heights area, she began what would be a thirty-year career as a realtor. Penny lived her very deep faith through extensive philanthropy and community involvement. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Cuyahoga Portage Chapter. Penny and Duane were avid world travelers and she was ready for her next port of call. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Building Hope in the City or the Cleveland Food Bank. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will hold a private service to celebrate Penny's life.
