Sara M. Dorsett

On Friday, May 27, 2022, Sara M. Dorsett, loving mother of five children, passed away at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her husband Roswell B. Dorsett, Jr. in 2013, and her daughter Kay Ellen in 1952.

Sara was born on Dec. 8, 1925 in Akron, Ohio to Chilton and Jean (Stutzman) Gallagher. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron in 1947 with a degree in Speech and Communications. On May 20, 1948, she married Roswell B. Dorsett, Jr. She had five children, Roswell B. III, Kirk L., Kay Ellen, Kenneth A., and Janet G. 

Sara had a passion for bridge and was known as “Sara Goren” by her bridge partners. She was a proud member of Delta Gamma sorority and Junior League of Akron. However, her primary love was her family, to whom she was tirelessly devoted. 

Sara leaves behind four children: Dr. Ross Dorsett of Akron, Ohio, Kirk (Maggi) of Akron, Ken (Patti) of Richfield, and Dr. Jan (Peter) Bayer of Chantilly, Virginia; six grandchildren, Katelyn Dorsett, Maureen Dorsett, Amy (Anthony) Cashdollar, Alex Dorsett, Jean Bayer, and Lizzie Bayer; and two great-grandchildren, Anthony and Macie Cashdollar. Sara was preceded in death by her father, Chilton, mother Jean, brother Kay, and sister Jane (Gould). 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 20, at 11 am, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Akron, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or a charity of your choice.
