THOMAS L. "TOM" SEELINGER
PRESIDENT, DICK'S GUN ROOM, INC.
The Akron/Cuyahoga Falls-area firearms world has lost another bright star with the passing of Thomas L. "Tom" Seelinger, who left us peacefully on Saturday, May 27th, 2017. Like his father Dick Seelinger who preceded him, Tom would not want people to mourn, but to celebrate a life that was lived to the fullest in his 61 short years.
Tom was a free spirit with a ponytail who shared his dad's sense of humor, but was his own man when it came to enjoying life with gusto. Tom was born in Akron on August 16, 1955. At the age of 10 he started working at Buckeye Sports Center, at 13 he learned the trade at Shaw's Body Shop, later opened his own business "Bodys by Tom", and then became a salesman for the Norton Co. He graduated Woodridge HS Class of '73. Tom grew up with the gun culture, became proficient in buying, trading and selling all firearms, and eventually joined his parents at Dick's Gun Room, Inc., Est. 1971.
Tom became President of Dick's Gun Room upon Dick's death in 2012. Like his father, Tom was an excellent salesman and an Endowment Member of the NRA. He was a lifelong member of the OGCA, Lifetime Member of ABATE of Ohio, past president of the Anchor Boat Club, and member of the Berlin Lake Assoc.
Tom was an avid Harley Davidson and boating enthusiast. He spent his summers at Berlin Lake, and shared birthdays at Put-in-Bay with close friends Brian and Sharon Hugi. He was a risk-taker, including bare-foot waterskiing even after having knee replacements, and cheated death on several occasions.
He is survived by his love, Diane Bradley; his beloved mother, Rita Seelinger; brother, Mike (Terri) Seelinger; nephew, Shane Wohlers; aunt, Laurell Kuck; cousins, Grant, Kerry, Mark, Sherri, Joe, and Jenny; the entire Gun Room family; and many cherished friends. He'll be sadly missed by his beloved cats, KC and Dusty; Tom had a huge love and compassion for any furry soul.
Per Tom's wishes, cremation has taken place. Calling hours are on Friday, June 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Billow FALLS Chapel, 1907 23rd Street, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44223.
