Why Family-Owned Matters

Being Family-Owned Matters

At the Billow Co., we believe that receiving end of life funeral care provided by a local, family-owned funeral home matters. In fact, we are so bold to believe that funeral service provided by profit-driven publicly traded corporation, multinational conglomerates, and private equity backed consolidation companies cannot compare. Funeral service is about people, not profits. That is why it is so important that we honor our 151-year history and continue to operate as an independent, closely held, family-owned business. We are not responsible to faceless shareholders; rather, we are responsible to YOU – our friends and neighbors in the community.

Supporting families with transparency, care and compassion is our priority. While some funeral service providers may come off as a family-owned business, they are often owned by larger corporations or out-of-state operators. The differences between a family-owned business and a corporation can be significant, and we want to do our part to ensure our community finds a funeral home that serves their family with compassion and transparency.

Personal Care for Our Community

Our funeral home answers to families within our community, not corporate boards or stakeholders. Our stakeholders are you: our friends, neighbors and community members. Because of this, we can recognize the needs within our community and align our business with what best fits. Our primary values include transparency, honest and trust. It is so important that we build and maintain genuine relationships as we care for families. Being family- and locally-owned allows us to operate in accordance to these values, and these values guide us in the everyday decisions made by our business.

Corporate funeral service providers often set policies and prices within a board room, discussed amongst distant leadership outside of our community. Family-owned funeral homes have the freedom to operate in congruence with the values of our communities – responding directly to the community and being in tune with it’s unique needs. Hearing and responding to our community and the families we serve is the core of what we do.

We serve all families, no matter their background, socioeconomic status, religion or culture.
